Michael G. Noonan, Director of Music / Organist
Mr. Noonan began studying organ with the late Dr. Roberta Bitgood, a past president of the American Guild of Organists, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mystic, CT at the age of 15. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Music Education from Central Connecticut State University and a Certificate of Study from The Royal School of Church Music in Croydon, England, attending its Summer Study Program in 1985.
Since 1985, Michael has taught vocal and instrumental music in Stonington (CT), Lyme-Old Lyme (CT), and Preston (CT) Public Schools. He is currently Music Teacher and Choral Director at North Stonington (CT) Elementary School where he has been since 1999. Since 2003, Mr. Noonan has been the pianist and organist for The Williams Chorale in Attleboro, MA, as well as adjudicator for the Williams Chorale Bacardi Fallon Performing Arts Scholarship Competition.
He is Co-Chair of the Mystic (CT) Area Ecumenical Council Choir Festival, where he has served as organist/accompanist at many festivals and has coordinated, directed and accompanied the New London County Chapter American Guild of Organists Annual Children’s Choir Festival. He has sung with choirs on multiple CD recordings and participates in many local and regional choral events.
Mr. Noonan’s professional affiliations include The American Guild of Organists, The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, The United Church of Christ Musicians Association, Music Educators National Conference and Connecticut Music Educators Association.
He resides in North Stonington, CT, with his wife and two children.
